Pale orange area with dashed edge = reported fighting. A whole district is shaded when the source names it. Otherwise a small circle marks the approximate spot. Thin lines = roads. Grey-violet governorate = mixed control, so the colour is not shown for the whole governorate.

About this tracker
Yemen Front Lines shows which force has held each of Yemen’s 22 governorates at 15 points between September 2014 and October 2026, plus dated events: strikes and attacks, ground fighting, changes of control, political decisions and humanitarian news. Choose a day, then choose how far back to look.
How to read it
Colours show the controlling force: Houthis, the internationally recognised government (the Presidential Leadership Council since April 2022), the Southern Transitional Council (STC), and in 2015 and 2016 al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
Stripes mean two forces hold different districts inside one governorate. They do not mark a front line.
Every event carries a status: confirmed, reported, claimed or reference. The Sources tab explains each one. Claims by a party to the conflict are never shown as confirmed.
The Outlook tab is an editorial reading of the reporting, not a statistical forecast.
Limits
Control is simplified to the governorate level. Marker positions are approximate for places the sources describe loosely. Events from 2014 to 2021 rest on general reference sources and are less precise than 2022 to 2026. Battlefield claims change quickly.
